We do this by creating spaces where students can discuss their ideas and learn about their ideological opponents’ experiences and knowledge that informs their beliefs. We talk about anything ranging from immigration to guns to economics, providing balanced background information so that participants can begin each discussion with a common understanding. The significance of the name Bridge is that it represents our philosophy; we are not here to force people into the middle or to determine a winner, but to learn about differing perspectives while still being able to hold your own beliefs. The three main values of Bridge Stony Brook are viewpoint diversity, constructive dialogue, and solution-oriented politics. Viewpoint diversity is having the space for constructive and open dialogue as well as having productive intellectual exchanges. At Bridge Stony Brook we understand that it is not possible to challenge certain beliefs with only one view of ideas, rather is it a range of perspectives. Constructive dialogue is crucial to the Bridge mission. Bridge Stony Brook is adamant about transforming unproductive and disrespectful conversations about politics into engaging, fulfilling, and informative ones. At Bridge Stony Brook we believe it takes courage to challenge opposing beliefs but it also takes respect, empathy, and curiosity to explore the complexity of important issues in a productive manner.

Not only are we heavily involved on campus, but we are also committed to making an impact worldwide by collaborating with other chapters of the nonprofit no matter their location. With the outlet to so many other Asian communities around the world, we are able to educate the community on campus with experiences and new perspectives from other DAY campus/community chapters around the world. The purpose of Dermatological at Stony Brook (Dermatological SBU) is as follows:“ building skin health and hygiene literacy skills from the ground up today, so young adults have the foundation required to make informed decisions tomorrow.” Recognizing the absence of a curriculum addressing skin health and the limited accessibility to sun safety knowledge, Dermatological SBU combats this insufficiency through its educational outreach initiatives. Our primary goal is to bridge the skin health literacy gap in the Long Island area, specifically in Suffolk County. We strive to lead community engagement by educating Title I schools and community programs on essential topics such as the importance of practicing preventative sun safety hygiene, the etiology and treatment for common skin conditions, and topics such as the significant psychosocial impacts of skin disorders on mental well-being and the importance of practicing preventative sun safety and hygiene. Through the deliverance of an organization-developed and dermatologist-approved educational curriculum, we strive to empower and inspire our members to pursue community service and engagement. Furthermore, Dermatological SBU highlights the importance of diversifying the field of Dermatology by bringing attention to the lack of inclusive graphics in medical academic textbooks. To tackle this issue, we have established a designated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) sub-committee that reviews all educational materials and presentations prior to their use in educational initiatives.
