The purpose of this club is to build a community where students of all levels of experience can learn about Computer Aided Design (CAD) for 3D design and printing of assistive technology and prosthetics while providing them to people in the community to improve their activities of daily living and quality of life. The organization will offer educational workshops including, but not limited to, fundamentals of 3D design and 3D printing, simple electrical circuits, and assembly of 3D printed prosthetics. Members can also work on client-specific projects and participate in outreach initiatives to teach the community on 3D printing and assistive technology.

AGD is the only professional association that EXCLUSIVELY advances the interests of general dentists. AGD’s mission is to “advance general dentistry and oral health through quality continuing education and advocacy.” As dental students we are all trained to be general dentists, so all dental students can benefit from AGD. Students in this club can also obtain up to 50 total credit-hours of approved CE courses which can be achieved by online or in person lectures. In order to make things easier for dental professionals AGD headquarters applies credit towards your CE transcript from CE courses submitted that are hosted by AGD PACE-approved providers. This makes AGD an ideal club to have on campus at the dental school as it allows dental students to learn more about the field of dentistry.

Active Minds at Stony Brook University aims to promote mental health awareness, provide education, reduce stigma, and connect students with resources. We raise awareness about the mental health challenges students face, educate the campus community on recognizing symptoms and available treatments, and act as a liaison between students and support services both on and off campus. The purpose of “Actors Conservatory” is to provide an outlet for all interested undergraduates who seek to develop their artistic and technical skills in the medium of the performing arts on campus aside from coursework. Our GBMS and events are open to all, but acting in a production requires an audition. We are historically a no-cut club.

The American Physician Scientist Association (APSA) is a nationwide student-led organization dedicated to addressing the needs of future physician-scientists at all stages of their career. Physician-scientists are physicians who also conduct research in laboratory and/or clinical settings with standalone MD/DO degrees and/or PhD/MS degrees. APSA currently has over 60 active local chapters across the country, including an already-established LC here at Stony Brook. However, the LC at SBU is run by MD/PhD with only MD/PhD students. The mission of the American Physician Scientist Association (APSA) Undergraduate LC at SBU is to promote awareness within the undergraduate population of the physician-scientist pathway through community outreach by providing professional development opportunities and implementing longitudinal mentorship, partnering with the SBU MD/PhD Program (MSTP). The purpose of “Asha” is an organization which introduces Stony Brook students to the world of South Asian music. During weekly meetings, we plan to practice our singing acapella-styled, specializing in Indian film and Indian Classical music, as well as any other styles that members may be interested in. Meetings will give members chances to give and receive healthy feedback from peers as well as an opportunity to share knowledge of different musicians, musical genres, and songs with others. Our goal is to be able to work together to create performances which we can showcase at events around campus and to allow members to feel comfortable and content in an environment where South Asian music is the main focus, as there is no club at Stony Brook that solely focuses on this concept.

We meet once a week to discuss either an article that has been chosen the week before by one of the club members or developments in our own research endeavors. The purpose of “Cat Network” is to address the problem of feral cats on the Stony Brook campus. Like many universities around the country, Stony Brook is home to as many as several hundred stray cats and kittens. Without our intervention, these animals would continue to suffer the ravages of winter, starvation, disease, and auto traffic. Our mission is to humanely trap, neuter, and vaccinate all feral cats on campus. Kittens will be adopted out, and adults will be re-released into their colonies, after which they will be fed and cared for the rest of their lives. This organization will also provide a fun, social, and educational space for all Stony Brook cat lovers.

The purpose of ChinaBlue is to serve the local Chinese American students, scholars, and residents, or anyone else interested in learning about Chinese culture. ChinaBlue will produce weekly aired radio shows through WUSB, Stony Brook 90.1 FM educating students and the public about recent issues regarding the Chinese community. Due to the multilingual aspect of Chinese dialects, the show will alternate between Cantonese and Mandarin on a weekly basis. Audiences are encouraged to call to request songs or join discussions on our weekly topic. ChinaBlue will also serve as a bridge between their audiences and other organizations affiliated with ChinaBlue by voicing and advertising through our weekly broadcasting program. The purpose of the Comic Book Club is to educate students of Stony Brook about the art of comic books as an informational medium. Members will discuss and produce comics in which to hone creative storytelling ability and explore techniques in effective comic creation. Through this, members will be given the opportunity and resources (such as access to printing and help to navigate library resources) to appropriately and effectively tell stories about their experiences and knowledge. They will also be given the opportunity to publish their works through a club-run omnibus (similar to an anthology, but for comics instead of purely written works). The purpose of Dermatological at Stony Brook (Dermatological SBU) is as follows:“ building skin health and hygiene literacy skills from the ground up today, so young adults have the foundation required to make informed decisions tomorrow.” Recognizing the absence of a curriculum addressing skin health and the limited accessibility to sun safety knowledge, Dermatological SBU combats this insufficiency through its educational outreach initiatives. Our primary goal is to bridge the skin health literacy gap in the Long Island area, specifically in Suffolk County. We strive to lead community engagement by educating Title I schools and community programs on essential topics such as the importance of practicing preventative sun safety hygiene, the etiology and treatment for common skin conditions, and topics such as the significant psychosocial impacts of skin disorders on mental well-being and the importance of practicing preventative sun safety and hygiene. Through the deliverance of an organization-developed and dermatologist-approved educational curriculum, we strive to empower and inspire our members to pursue community service and engagement. Furthermore, Dermatological SBU highlights the importance of diversifying the field of Dermatology by bringing attention to the lack of inclusive graphics in medical academic textbooks. To tackle this issue, we have established a designated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity (DEI) sub-committee that reviews all educational materials and presentations prior to their use in educational initiatives. The purpose of “Genetics Student Interest Group” is as follows: Though student interest groups exist for every other medical discipline at the Renaissance School of Medicine, there is currently no extracurricular opportunity for medical students to have exposure to Clinical Genetics. This, in combination with very limited exposure to the field while on clinical rotations, translates to not just poor awareness to the field as a career option, but potentially translates to intimidation and poor confidence when seeing patients with suspected or diagnosed genetic disorders. Through the Genetics Student Interest Group, we hope to bridge the gaps that exist between medical education and the field of Clinical Genetics, by (1) providing exposure to what Clinical Genetics entails as a career and subspecialty in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Obstetrics, (2) bolstering the medical student knowledge of genetic disorders, and (3) encouraging students to feel comfortable and confident when presented with a patient with a suspected or diagnosed genetic disorder.

Givology’s mission is to provide quality education for all children. Utilizing a network of grassroots partnerships, local communities are transformed through high impact projects and scholarships. The donations can be sent to an organization of the chapter’s choosing, and real updates are sent as a form of transparency so the chapter can see the impact their donation made.
